Delia and Peter Roberts are our founders. With their son Michael they belonged to the Flyball Enthusiasts (some said Flyball Fanatics) long before the B.F.A. in January 1994.
The PODS name happened by chance. During the Flyball Enthusiasts days it was a case of "What shall we run as today?" It should so happen that Delia & Peter's eldest son ran a small business putting Logos onto T-shirts etc. He supplied T-Shirts to an Operatic & Drama Society who returned them. Peter and Delia came up with a definition to fit this logo that encompassed all dog sports. This was Practical Obedience and Dog Sports. So PODS they became for short. We go all out to train newcomers and give Demonstrations, big or small, even missing sanctioned shows to promote various dog sports such as Flyball, Agility and Fly-agility. We have had many members run under the PODS umbrella but encourage them to break away and form their own flyball teams as soon as they have enough participants in the area. A few teams that come to mind are the Rugby Renegades, the Wolf Pack from Birmingham, the Red Wellies from Wellingborough, the Dodgers from Daventry, & more recently the Valley team from Conwy.
Originally PODS was based in Northamptonshire. Peter and Delia, along with their son Michael and Peter’s mother moved to Anglesey in 2001. They set up a training facility on their land and have encouraged and collected a group of flyball and agility enthusiasts. At the end of 2003, the Northamptonshire members of PODS formed their own team, the Molten Magnets. There is still a strong link between the PODS and Molten Magnets.
Our flyball team names are derivatives of PODS. At the moment we have a number of very active teams – PODantics, PODextras,PODlets, PODlers, PODlings and Peas in a POD.
As well as flyball some of us compete in other dog sports including Agility & Heelwork to Music.
